New Providence Gas Ltd. (NPG)

New Providence Gas Ltd. (NPG) is helping advance the modernization of The Bahamas’ energy sector through the development of new infrastructure that will introduce Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as an additional fuel source for power generation.

As part of a multi-phased LNG-to-Power initiative, NPG is developing the LNG import, storage and regasification terminal at Clifton Pier. Once operational, the facility will receive LNG by marine vessel, safely store it and convert it back into natural gas for delivery to power-generation facilities on New Providence.

The project represents an important step in diversifying the country’s energy mix and strengthening fuel security. Natural gas provides a lower-emissions alternative to the heavy fuel oil and diesel traditionally used for much of the island’s power generation, while supporting more efficient generating technology and providing dependable generation that can complement the wider introduction of renewable energy over time.

Designed as scalable infrastructure, the development will progress in phases, establishing the initial capacity required to receive, store and regasify LNG, with opportunities to expand storage and delivery capacity as future demand develops. This phased approach will help strengthen operating flexibility and support New Providence’s evolving energy requirements.

The project also brings together international LNG expertise with a long-term commitment to developing Bahamian capability. Through knowledge transfer, workforce exposure, training and career pathways, the initiative creates opportunities for Bahamians to build the technical and professional skills required to participate in the country’s changing energy sector.
