Building critical infrastructure today to support the energy needs of tomorrow.
At Clifton Pier, a new chapter in The Bahamas’ energy story is taking shape.
The New Providence Gas liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal is moving from plans to construction, bringing together global LNG capabilities, deep Bahamian experience and a shared commitment to strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure.
Once operational, the small-scale terminal will receive LNG by marine vessel, store it and convert it back into natural gas for delivery to designated power-generation facilities on New Providence.
Its purpose is clear: to help diversify The Bahamas’ energy mix, strengthen fuel security and provide a lower-emissions alternative to the fuel oil and diesel used for much of the island’s power generation.
BUILT FOR PROGRESS
Energy supports everyday life.
It powers homes and businesses, hospitals and schools, public services, industries and communities.
“We are building a bridge to a stronger Bahamas made of trusted relationships, disciplined execution, and shared purpose,” said Dexter Adderley, President & CEO of FOCOL.
That is why investment in energy infrastructure matters. The New Providence Gas terminal is an important building block in the modernization of New Providence’s power system. Lasting improvements will require coordinated progress across fuel supply, generation, transmission and distribution, alongside the integration of renewable energy sources.
At Clifton Pier, one part of that progress is taking physical shape.
“This terminal represents partnership, progress and confidence in the future of The Bahamas,” said Tom Summers, Executive Vice President, Shell LNG Marketing & Trading. “By combining FOCOL’s deep Bahamian experience with Shell’s global LNG capabilities, we are developing a practical energy solution tailored to the country’s current and future needs.”
GLOBAL CAPABILITY. BAHAMIAN EXPERIENCE
New Providence Gas Limited (NPG) is a joint venture between Sun Oil Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings Limited, and Shell Bahamas Power Company Inc. (Shell). Sun Oil holds a 60% interest and Shell holds 40%.
The partnership combines Shell’s global LNG portfolio, supply experience and technical capabilities with FOCOL’s local knowledge, operating experience and long-standing commitment to The Bahamas.
Together, the partners plan to construct, own and operate critical energy infrastructure designed for New Providence’s evolving needs. Shell will supply LNG from the United States to the project to support a secure and reliable fuel supply.
ENERGY THAT MOVES A COUNTRY FORWARD
For an island nation, energy progress must be practical, fit for purpose and responsive to local needs.
Natural gas offers flexible power generation, complements intermittent renewable energy and provides a lower-emissions alternative to fuel oil and diesel in power generation.
From the infrastructure taking shape at Clifton Pier to the natural gas it will deliver, this project is about more than building a terminal.
